Adam Hammill has announced this morning that he has officially retired from football, bringing an end to a glittering career within the sport.

Adam came through the Liverpool FC Academy system before moving to Barnsley FC where he became a cult hero during two spells at Oakwell. In 2016 he scored a memorable goal at Wembley in the play-off final as Barnsley won promotion to the Championship from League one. Adam also enjoyed successful spells at Wolves, Huddersfield Town and St Mirren. He also played for England at under 19 and Under 21 level.

Adam joined Prescot Cables in the summer of 2022, along with his nephew, James. He went on to make 17 appearances for the Pesky Bulls, scoring a screamer away at Ashton Athletic in the Emirates FA Cup to send us through to the next round.

Cub Chairman Tony Zeverona paid this tribute to Hammill's career: "Adam has had an unbelievable career. From breaking through at Liverpool under Steve Highway, scoring countless screamers for Barnsley and St Mirren, to the unbelievable strike this season at Ashton for us, he's been a star everywhere he's been. I would like to thank him for all his efforts this season for Cables, producing some unbelievable moments that we will remember for a long time. We wish him the very best for the future, whatever he does."

We wish to thank Adam for his efforts this season and wish him all the very best for his post football future. We look forward to welcoming him back to The Joseph Russell Staduim as a fan in the future.
